I really love elves,
fairies, dragons, sprites and almost any other mystical creature you can
think of. I made this page especially for them. Below are only a
few of my favorite mystical creatures. I also added some really good
links that I have found which pertain to the magical being that I've
listed. If you have a favorite mystical creature or a website that you
would like listed, please feel free to email me (listed at the right side of
this page) and I will add it. I hope you enjoy this page as you go
through it. A favorite trilogy of mine that is jammed packed with all sorts of mystical creatures is the E.F.H. (Elves, Fairies, Humans) Trilogy by Margaret R. Gifford. In this trilogy, the reader gets to meet elves, fairies, three types of sprites (fire, water, and tree) as well as dragons, one being a two-headed beast! In Book 1, The Elves, the reader enters Outworld and the land of DeLella where a little girl named Rachel is a princess. She is abruptly and unpleasantly taken out of her world and thrown into a strange new land, by the name of Inworld and by a kind water fairy named Kristen. It is a world of magical creatures and a terrible secret. Kristen vanishes and Rachel is led through this unfamiliar world by a young light elf called Morak, who tells her of a war the light elves are fighting against water fairies, dark elves, and trolls. If that wasn't frightening enough for the princess, she also learns that it is against the law for humans to be in Inworld and Morak must take her to his elders. But the journey is not an easy one, for Rachel is plagued by terrible nightmares that include elfin symbols, a terrible two headed dragon, and a strange woman who looks like her dead mother. Along the way, one of Morak's tree sprites comes into play. Her mischievous actions cause a chain reaction that endangers Morak's father, and leads them all to Forbidden Valley, the home of the dark elves, under the escort of the dark elves themselves. Much to Rachel's surprise, they are not as bad as Morak had made them seem, and she becomes friends with a young dark elfin girl named Oyjaline and her fire sprite Flay, who claims Rachel as his own human. The group ends up standing before the elfin high council, where Rachel meets the light elfin king, and the dark elfin queen. They jump into heated debate about who has responsibility for Rachel's being there, one that Rachel fears will lead to bloodshed. She comes forward and tries her best to make the two groups of elves realize that they are no different from each other, for she has learned this from her travels with the dark elfin group and the young light elf. But only the appearance of a very unexpected visitor and his companions breaks the tension between the elves. He speaks of the true enemy and states that Rachel, the young human princess, is the key to saving both Inworld and Outworld as well.

Another favorite trilogy of mine that has interesting creatures is The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. Here you will meet all types of mystical creatues ranging from hobbits, to elves, to dwarfs, to orcs and goblins. Legolas is a woodland prince from Milkwood. He is a gentle elf that loves the forest and everything it has to offer. However, he hates trolls and goblins and is quick to kill them. Being very adapted with the bow and area, Legolas finds this easy to do. All the elves in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy love silver and for this reason do not get along with the dwarfs who mine it. However, because of the circumstances that surround Middle Earth, Legolas becomes fast friends with a dwarf named Gimli. Together, this unlikely pair set out to kill and destroy as many orcs as they can. I really like Legolas character and found a really good site that is dedicated to him as well as the unlikely friendship between him and Gimli.

In my opinion, one of the most beautiful mystical creatures is the unicorn. Usually found in either enchanted woods or magical meadows, this gorgeous creature is normally depicted as a large horse with a single horn on its forehead. The horn is magical and always is shown as a golden color while the unicorn itself comes in a wide variety of colors. Legends portray the unicorns as symbols for chastity and purity. Because of its fabled purity, legends also states that the unicorn's horn was a popular ingredient for medicines and for alchemical reactions. Stories tell us that the horn could cure illness that ranged from stomache problems to a strong protection from poisons. This incredible creature will fight ferociously if cornered, but could be tamed by a virgin's touch.

Dragons are usually displayed as the bad guys in most fantasy stories. They normally are very large creatures with thick, snake-like bodies covered with scaly skin. They have four powerful legs, two large bat-like wings, wedge-shaped heads, long necks and spiked tails. They frequently portrayed as breathing smoke and fire. Dragons come in a wide variety of shapes, colors and sizes and most always have a huge pile of gold and precious jewels that they hoard in their lairs. However, not all dragons are bad. Some dragons have been known to be clever and gentle beasts. These gentle giants usually don't breath fire but instead have long beards and hold a pearl in their claws. It is from this pearl that they get their power. Dragons aren't easily killed. Their scales are too hard for arrows and even swords to penetrate. But all is not lost, for most dragons do have a weak spot, either on the underside of their bellies, chest or chin.

Link is one of my favorite characters in a video game. Over the years, this little elf has changed from the unsuspecting child hero in The Legend of Zelda, a Link to the Past where he awakes to find his uncle missing to a teenaged elf in the Ocarina to Time. In the Legend of Zelda, our hero hears Zelda, the Hyrule princess calling for him to save her from the horrible monster Gannon. Of course our elfin hero takes off and after much ado, saves the seven maidans, unlocks the entrance to Gannon's tower, defeats the bad guy and saves Zelda. In the Ocarina of Time, our hero is back, but this time Link is living with the Kokiri, elves of the forest. These elves never grow up and sometime during thier lives, acquire a fairy that accompanies them the rest of their lives. Of course, Link is the only forest elf (or so he thinks he's a Kokiri) that hasn't gotten a fairy yet. Our hero is summon by the Great Deku Tree who has to break the curse the tree had fallen under. After our hero breaks this curse, he finds out that he is actually an elf from Hyrule and once again must save the day. He has to free all of the sages, save Zelda again, and of course defeat the evil Gannon. Link does get a fairy, Navi, who helps him along the way. He also gets a pretty cool horse, Epona, which he can ride all over the place. This game is one of my favorites because Link travels back and forth through time where is is transformed from a young elf to a teenaged elf. The game ends with our hero once more saving the day. Other favorite games of mine that Link is in are Majora's Mask; Legend of Zelda, Oracle of Ages and Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons.

Deedlit is one of my favorite elves. She is a character in Record Of The Lodoss War, an excellent anime series that based in a fantasy land known as Lodoss - The Accursed Island. It starts off when a young and brave warrior, Parn, saves the mayor's daughter from a small group of goblins. The goblins return to destroy the village and Parn finds himself in a great deal of trouble. He is saved by Ghim, a strong dwarven warrior whose quest is to find the daughter of the priestess Neese and by Slayn, a very powerful magician and old friend of Ghim's. Together, along with Parn's long time friend, Etoh, a priest of Falis, and a elfin girl known as Deedlit, the the goblins are defeated. Thus the four set off for a journey whose long path will take them to a fate unimaginable and their battles become more and more epic. The journey includes fighting Wangnard, a very powerful dark wizard and Ashrum, the black knight. Parn and his traveling companions travel through many towns, escape from the dungeons of Myce and journey through the Forest of No Return, with Deedlit's guidance. It isn't until they encounter the Grey Witch of Karla, when the stage for an even greater threat to Lodoss is set. The story includes battling a demon dragon called Shooting Star and trying to retrieve the Scepter of Domination. Whoever has the Scepter of Domination can rescurrect Kardis, the evil god. The series climaxes with Deedlit, being a high elf, is kidnapped by Wagnard to be sacrificed in order to complete the rescurrection. Can Parn save her in time? This is a great series for any and all who like fantasy stories.
